‘Tis the Season to Sing and Let Your Heart Be Touched

'Tis the Season..

As I sit here listening to a favorite Christmas song of mine by Steven Curtis Chapman, I am finding it very difficult to put into words what I am feeling.

The song is called All I Really Want for Christmas, and it has always touched a very soft and tender spot in my heart.  I honestly can’t listen to it without tearing up and feeling a hurt in my heart for the millions of children who will spend Christmas day (as well as every other day of the year) without a family to call their own.

Listen and Let Your Heart Be Moved

Please listen to this song and let your heart be touched for the approximately 143 million orphans in this world.  Imagine yourself in their position.  Be thankful for your family.  Hug your children.  And maybe…reach out and change the life of a child who doesn’t have a family to call their own.

What the Bible Has to Say

Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.  James 1:27

I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.  Matthew 25:40

Come back next week for the last post in this series: ‘Tis the Season to Submit!

Do you have a favorite song that touches your heart every time you hear it?

  1. RobinP says:

This song is very special to me. We adopted an almost 6yo boy from China two years ago. Now almost 8, he is an outgoing, exuberant child who loves being part of a family. He has a 21yo brother and an 8yo brother (whom he shadows.)

    • Mindy says:

Love this, Robin! So special! You don’t hear a lot about people adopting older children, but there is such a need there. Thanks for sharing part of your story with us!

  2. I’m feeling super weepy today…so I won’t listen just now. :-)

  3. Touching song!

  4. Thanks for sharing.

My all-time favorite song is “I Can Only Imagine” by Casting Crowns.

A few years back I was at a funeral of a woman who had lived a very godly life. I think(?), since she knew she was dieing, she had chosen the songs for her funeral. “I Can Only Imagine” was one of the songs. Ever since then, I decided it would be played at my funeral too. To some people that can sound “morbid”, but at funerals people really examine their lives and are face-to-face with a very real reminder of the brevity of life. It gives you one last chance to witness.

Anyway… to answer your question, that’s the song that touches my heart EVERY TIME I hear it. :)

  5. Beautiful Mindy…thanks for sharing!

  6. Emily says:

“A Baby Changes Everything.” Makes me cry every year.

  7. I love that song! SCC is good for the songs that touch your heart. One of my favs of his is “Heaven is the Face”. Makes me tear up every time. I also love his tribute to moms (well, in particular his wife) “One Heartbeat at a Time”.
